Rail line property was often taken for free around here to promote transportation with some vague promise it would only be used for rail, or returned..... It was rather sketchy when they then tried to sell the abandoned lines back to the people they took it from. What was rougher is the rail lines didn't want to sell short segments; but sold entire lines for one lump sum which meant the original land owners were locked out of being able to buy back what was originally theirs. May be some hard feelings to this day on such.
