elton fancher- just to add another side to the situation....
My neighbor showed up, knocking on my door. He was actually crying and said my dog killed 2 of his 1 week old calves. I asked how he knew my dog killed his calves? He said he came up on the dog and it was chewing on the bones.
To be neighborly, I offered to pay for his loss and asked how much to replace the calves. He said $5,000. He then explained that would be what the calves would be worth once they were fullgrown.
After that statement, I knew he was trying to scam me so I offered him $500 and he accepted that. (I did not want to drag this into court and attorney fees would exceed more than the $500).
