Thanks for all the replies. This oak is 17 feet in diameter last I measured. The bees have been in it for one year so it is a hive.Their entrance is approximately 10 foot from the ground. I will attempt to remove them at a later date.I have been told exactly as you described with a screen funnel,a nuc box with old combs and lemongrass oil as attractant., but was told the queen will follow after the bees had abandoned her.I like the idea of a new queen and the use of a ladder stand for a platform. Thanks to all, will update later.
