Northeast diagonally across the intersection from the Love Truck stop is "Living History Farms". Several different era farmsteads and a town from way back. This time of year it is probably not open or just on limited basis. I found it quite interesting. It is on both sides of the interstate with a tunnel under the road to get from one side to the other. There is a tractor pulled shuttle trailer to take you from the entrance to the far reaches of the grounds. If nothing else is open the Machine Shed restaurant in front is a good place to eat. Deere plant in Des Moines/Ankeny makes cotton harvesters. Not sure if they have tours or not. Most likely not available on weekends. Good to put on your time killing list if you are stuck in Des Moines again.
