We used to have a an old fellow in town who was an absolute genius with a turning lathe.
His shop looked like a disaster area, and there were three things you didn't do if you wanted to deal with him.
1. You didn't try to hurry him up.
2. You didn't try to haggle him down on prices.
3. And you didn't try to talk him into doing something he didn't want to do.
Any one of the three would result in directions to the door.
But-if you handed him some project that was a challenge to his skills, he'd bust his butt to get it done properly, and charge about half what the project was really worth.
I always got along great with him. We had him do all of our driveshafts when we were racing stock cars. (Engine placement resulted in varying lengths of driveshafts).
