: I have what I believe to be a real old 9N. I know the sn. is on the side of the engine but can't find it. distributer is up front. I need to clean and set the points--is there any way to do this without disassembleing the tractor? Please drop me a line and tell me exactly where the sn is. I;m afraid it got destroyed by a bath of battery corrosion. Thanks for any help--Vern Vern I have had a 40 9N for 16 years. It's ok. You can remove the distributor and replace/set the points by simply removing the 5/16 bolt(1/2" wrench) and clamp at the base of the distributor. This does not change the timing. You will have to remove the distributor cap but this is no problem either.
