Yes if he used altinator diodes you can get them + or - polarity. Correct? Just make sure the little arrow goes in the same directon . Every charger I have all of the diodes are discret components. Yes I always put in double or tripple the amp load and the voltage should be a couple of hundred volts. They have gotten so cheep it is mind boggling. Picture shows a nice old cutie I picked up for $5 at a yard sale. Took it apart and cleaned out a little dust and gave it a wax job. Shows the two little diodes on the back of the center tap transformer. Works great.
