I currently have a 2290 in the shop. The mechanic told me they had a issue with the sun gear in the final drives. Turns out in my case that wasn't the major issue but we are replacing the sun on both sides as they are showing signs.
The symptoms you describe tells me it is a issue beyond the differential. Likely the sun gear.
If you are intending to replace the tractor in a year or two you will likely be money ahead to do it now. Keep in mind I am not following that advice but it would cost me more to replace the tractor and then I don't know what I am getting.
