Champion was known previously as Dominion Roads and before that the American Road Machinery company. Volvo started to shut the line down in 2008 and the production never went to the USA, but to Brazil with the R&D section moving to Pennsylvania. Over 500 factory jobs were lost along with about 400 local support jobs. Volvo has ceased production of graders in both the US and Brazil only to turn over the manufacturing to their Chinese branch. The company stated there is not enough of a market to warrant North American production.
