Thank you and also Royse and Larry NCKS for answering my post about the Ford 901 Powermaster. Worked on it again today and found a minor problem with the new plug wires that the guy had put on it recently. They were factory made wires but made incorrectly. The end of the wire that goes in the distributor cap was cut off flush and when they clamped the little brass end cap on, the points that are supposed to go thru the insulation and make contact with the wire didn't, points weren't long enough. Put my ohm meter on them to make sure the wire inside wasn't broke. Couldn't get a reading on the meter and after closer inspection that was what I found. Guess the spark was having to jump across two gaps. Had the guy bring a new set of wires that were correct. Had to have the idle needle out about a turn and a half. When I removed the old needle it was set at two and a half turns out. Did your adjustment on the power needle like you said and got it pretty close now, may have to tweak it a little more when we can get a good load on the engine. Reset the timing once and ran it for a little and rechecked it. For some reason it had moved a little so we set it again. Starts and runs good now but we think there may be a little problem with the starter switch. Won't start right off until the button is almost released. We assume that it doesn't need the little power jet that is in the bottom end of the float bowl. I couldn't get any black smoke from the exhaust, He said the engine had been overhauled about four hundred hours ago. Anyhow, thanks for the help, much appreciated.
