I was always too practical. Never wanted to spend money on any "foolishness". Didn't go anywhere when I was younger. Wife inherited $15,000 right after college- we were going to bicycle around Europe for a couple months, but (by agreement) ended up using it as a down payment on our first farm, and the saga of the "crazy horse lady" was off and running.
My kids were much more adventurous. All three went to Europe after getting out of college and saving up a few bucks. Daughter (the youngest) was the most adventurous- She did a semester abroad in Costa Rica in college, then after college spent several months with relatives in Germany (and learned enough German to get by), couple months in Ecuador, some time in China and Mongolia, etc., etc. She worked for Alaska Airlines so could fly free, which sure helped. Has been all over the place, and says she is glad she did it.
I don't regret that aspect of my life, but do kind of wish we'd have done the bicycling thing way back when.
