Does the response quickly up when you're you're waiting for the hitch to raise, and pull the aux. valve lever?

Move the draft lever to the forward position (heavy), then pull the position handle halfway back. When the hitch reaches it's midway position, mark the place of the handle, and very slowly move the position handle forward and observe the place where the hitch starts to drop. You may need to loosen the handle tightness to clearly get a good location of the handle without a jerk, etc. The handle should move approx. 3/8" before the hitch begins to drop. This is a quick easy test that will tell if the internal drop valve linkage is set correct.

Will the hitch still lift a heavy load? Does it reach the same high positon? Does the hitch drop when shut off and carrying a load, or start to hiccup while running?

The position handle has the smaller forward slot where it can be moved to decrease the drop speed of the 3 pt. It the internal valve gets stuck in the similar position it will also cut away part of the oil flow and slow things down. Normally as you move the handle to the beginning of the smaller slot you will feel the resistance of the the drop control rate valve. With the valve stuck you will feel the resistance towards the forward part of the thin slot. The 574 hitch control handles may be out of adj. some, and keep this in mind when trying to feel the forward resistance.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
