As others say, you advertise, you become a commercial carrier, and subjects to all DOT regulations. That alone is a deal breaker.
My truck gets 18+ mpg. Lucky to get 12 mpg pulling an empty trailer on level ground. Even less if trailer if loaded. No way would I want to go over mountains.
Another thing is tire wear. My tires on a two axle trailer dump trailer don't last very long. I don't overload it, but I do push the trailer's 10K limit.
If I'm pulling my 20 ft implement trailer and it's empty, it weigh 3k, it a killer. You don't realize how a small bump turns into a big kick in the butt. If I put a 3k load on trailer, things are much better. The big tires with 90 psi, empty trailer bounces like a basketball every time you go over a bridge. I just hate pulling it empty. My 10km 10 foot dump trailer is a delight empty compared to the 20 ft implement trailer. Both weigh the same empty too. go figure.
