Jon I know of two different companies systems that just releasing your Parking brake requires some one to be logged in as on duty. IF your out of time you get five minutes and the truck detunes.
The electronic log systems are not universal by no means. Each company can/will be slightly different in how they operate.
As for the Walmart DCs. I hauled in an out of them pulling a refer trailer hauling meat/produce. They needed to be spot unloaded or reloaded. With Dart your just about always dropping and hooking. That fact and the larger company makes how YOU can interact with Walmart different than a smaller company. Walmart DCs all are a little different in how they act/work too. That fact amazed me. I would have thought Walmart would have had universal rules but they don't at the DCs.
The long and short of it is I am glad to not having to deal with the entire commercial trucking industry anymore. Electronic logs and Government red tape stacked on top of dealing with drivers made us get out of that business.
Truthfully the Electronic Logs and Government red tape will force more smaller companies and independent truckers out of the business. This is one reason the BIG trucking companies supported these things. They know they can gain market share by driving others out of business with the help of the Government rules/regulations. Dart, Swift, Schneider, etc. can afford to hire people to manage the records and compliance much easier than a smaller company or independent driver.
