I have had both and prefer one 12 volt. The tractor starts better and there are fewer connections for resistance. Every extra cable connection is another place for corrosion and increased resistance. Each 6 volt costs the same as a 12 volt. I don't like any batteries in series. All of my Deere's and IH's that came with two 6 volts now have 2 12 volt batteries. I have had dealer service managers and shade tree mechanics tell me otherwise, but I have also had electrical engineers and automotive electric repair shop people tell me that one single large battery or two in parallel is the way to go. I also can tell which one starts quicker.
