Helped with one of those last year. Real pita. Had same symtom as yours. It had a broken shift fork as well as the worst wear we had ever seen in a transmission. Probably from lack of oil at some point. Boss thought things might come apart with minimal effort but no way was that going to happen. Had to split tractor twice to remove shift rails. Then basically gut the transmission to fix it. Warn you also that Ford parts are higher than your common brands. The comment about a fire made me chuckle. Made a lot of sense to me! Keep us informed on your outcome.
