12 volt still won't start

I see this throughout the forums, all brands, after conversion work well for a while then only start after jump or letting go of switch or resistor being bypassed. What I have found is that after mama's car battery acts up we buy her a new one and put the old one in the tractor. With a weakness that results in about 8 volts or less the 6 volt starter works ok but the ignition that relies on 11 volts to create spark doesn't. Volt meters will show the problem and only be read across the battery terminals while cranking..HTH
