I fabbed up this 3 point sprayer with a 12' boom that folds up to about 4'. Tank is 35 gallons, 8 nozzles on 20" spacing. PTO 6 roller pump supplies plenty of pressure and volume.
As far as what and when to spray depends on your particular weeds. Glyphosate is a good herbicide to use to "nuke" everything and get a fresh start. IIRC, it works on temps above 55 or so, on actively growing plants.
My plots are usually a fall planting of turnips or cereal rye, plowed under in the spring. Last year I cut hay off of it. When that gets turned, I like to plant buckwheat. It's cheap, very fast growing, can be disced after maturity and will grow a second crop. All of these can be broadcast and packed with excellent results. They also grow quickly, forming a canopy that will keep most weeds down. Cereal rye has an allelopathic effect. All the above crops are good soil tilth builders as well. HTH Mark
