You are probably right on the consumer end. On the commercial end the local BIG franchise is... They have 32 stores and millions of dollars of inventory in there warehouse.
I use NAPA brakes on trucks I buy the ultra premium they are pricey but there is a big difference They will woo it down. There is no advantage to either suppliers lower end brake pads/shoes.
In the past few weeks I was able to source OEM parts thru NAPA at a very reasonable price. Sure I could beat there price on line none of the other chain stores had it and could put it in my hand in a 24 hr time frame. Folks need to look at the description such as this is ceramic OEM is ceramic are This is a Hitachi coil Hitachi is the OEM supplier or This is a KOYO bearing OEM is KOYO..
The local NAPA lost his franchise last Dec. he's a bud of mine his prices were high his stock was extremely low and his warranty perneer non-existent.
