There's no sugar coating it, it's tough to lose, and tougher to lose a lot.
All you can do is talk with them to keep things in perspective.
There are a lot of people I admire, but I can't think of a single one that I admire for how far they can throw a bale of hay, or how far they can pull a weight with a tractor, or even how good they are at baseball to be honest, I'm not a big sports fan myself.
How I measure a person is by their heart, their honesty, how they treat others - do I like to be around them. Kids need to hear that because it's not always obvious.
Being the bigger person in those situations where the more immature are making fun is in itself is something to be admired. Sometimes just a "You handled that well, you made me proud" is just what they need.
They care about your approval so much more than anything else.
