Look up Nebraska Tractor test #1085 for the 2030 diesel and #1084 for the 2030 gasoline (both tested in 1971). At maximum power the diesel tested 97.0 dB/(A) at the operator's ear and the gasoline tested 94.5 dB/(A). Adding 3dB/(A) feels about twice as loud to most people. An upright muffler without an extension and a canopy can both direct more noise at the operator.
