Here's my take on it: If you need the services of a large dealership/network go for it. I have some neighbors with whom I helped buy a decked out JD for that very reason. They are city folks and don't change their oil personally for an example. The local JD company (Ag-Power, Inc.) has a dealer network in several states totaling 17 stores as I was told by one of their service techs. They also have service trucks that (for a fee) come out and keep everything ship shape on your tractor including warranty servicing, field maintenance, and problems that don't require a trip to the shop....course they have that capability too.
I change my oil and do my own repairs. I looked elsewhere after shopping all the colors for my 2007 Branson 6530C and didn't even shop for my 2016 Branson 2400. I don't have a dealer down the street. I have ready access to whatever I need in the way of repair parts/tech support via the telephone and UPS. Case in point, several years ago I blew out the right cab door glass on the 6530 with my drum mower in a pile of rocks while mowing for a friend in unknown territory. 3 days later a new one was sitting in my shop and the distributor in Plainview, TX. had 7 more in stock!
