Hi Steve. Back when I raised laying hens years ago, I used a 9 quart heated pail. The barn cats, dogs and chickens all drank from this pail everyday with no problems. I had to clean/fill it everyday. Chickens are very dirty. I found this pail at Mills Fleet Farm. Not sure what you have for farm stores out your way. Hope this helps. Glad to read Susan is better also. Kow Farmer Kurt
