All manual. The lever on the LH side below the dash by your knee, needs to be pulled back (should latch if adjusted properly), the throttle on the top of the dash needs to be back towards the operator. Not only do these levers decompress the engine, and open the gas starting valves in the head, they also open the switch on the end of the intake manifold that ground out the magneto, and operate the mechanism on the side of the carb that allows gas to flow into the carb through the needle valve. After it has run on gas, you snap the lever on the LH side ahead, and simultaneously shove the throttle ahead a bit. When trying to start it on gas, you usually need to choke it, but it seems they are very finicky with the choke. It seems like any one of those machines likes the choke a little different between them.
