I drove school bus when I was in college. We had a lot of close calls and one bus got hit about 1/2 head on. The car driver was killed but everyone in the bus was OK. Totaled the bus. I came so close to a head on that I couldn't breath for a second or two. I had a very full load and was going on the highway around a curve to the left. A car guessed that I was going straight to the bus garage on a side road. He ran the stop sign just feet in front of the bus. No time to react, just watched it happen. I was stopped one time with lights flashing and stop sign out and a car passed me on the right. I had the door open and the kid was on the bottom step. That one still haunts me. People will do anything to get around a bus. They are scared to death that they might have to stop for a minute. School bus drivers haul our most valuable possessions and deserve our cooperation and respect.
