Actually no, the same thing didn't happen. What happened was nothing. That nothing happened because there was no post invasion occupation plan. When the US got involved in WWII Roosevelt got a group of people together who spent most of the war in DC figuring out post war plans for Germany and Japan with the end goal of not punishing them but helping them rebuild as non aggressive nations. The allowed senior military commanders who were vetted to return to duty. In Iraq anyone from the Bath party (to be an officer in the Iraq military you had to be a member of the Bath party) was barred from serving as an officer.
