I try to keep this stuff mixed into my small engine fuel cans all the time. Like most fuel additives, they probably work better as a preventative than a problem solver, or at least better in treatments than a one-time cure. The only other fuel additive I can confirm that works great is chevron/techron.
Sometimes the "gunk" in a carb is foreign debris or so bad that an additive can't take care of it. Some of the passages are so small that no additives are going to clean them out, even the can of chem-dip stuff wont clean or open them all the way out.
