The danger is not in the tire that is free of defect getting over inflated... the danger is in the tire that has a defect blowing well below stated pressure. I know some will say all tires should always be restrained/caged but in reality that seldom happens. The most sensible thing to do is use clip on chucks and just stay clear while inflating. Use of Murphy's soap or something similar also goes a long way to helping them bead up smoothly rather than having to push the inflation pressure to get them to pop...
