I have a TO-30. It has a continental z129 engine.
The 20 has a smaller (z128 I think) engine.
The manual I have shows the hood assembly on the TO/TE-20 hinges at the bottom of the radiator. The whole hood and grille pivot at that point. The TO-30 has a removable top hood and the grille stays put. The serial number and model number should be on a plate above and left of the steering column. I didn't know what year mine was until I found the engine casting date on the side of the block.(it's a 1952). I have a complete repair manual for both machines and will supply you any additional data you may need if you drop me an email message.

: I'm looking at a Ferguson tractor that's for sale locally. The guy who owns it doesn't know much about it beyond its history with him (he's owned it four years). He believes its a TO-30, but doesn't know for sure. Well, I'm not sure I can tell either -- can I go by the serial numbers, and where are they found on Fergies?

: Not that it matters to me if its a 20 or a 30, I just want to figure out what I'm getting into if I buy this it.

: All info appreciated,

: jim

Today's Featured Article - Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
