Fill the transmission which is the hydraulic reservoir. The pump is in the back and when you go down hill the oil runs to the front and the pump sucks air. I have had the same problem as my belt pulley seal leaks a little and every few years I have to add a bit, too lazy to change the seal so far. I use "tractor lube", a combination hydraulic and transmission oil. You don't want to use 80/90 gear oil, it is too thick for the hydraulic system. The filler/level plug is on the left side of the transmission. If you are talking an extreme down hill grade you man not be able to put enough in without overfilling.
