: I need to know how to change oil on a JD B, styled. Could someone email me with instructions? I just bought a 1947 JDB complete with the blackest oil I have ever seen. Underneath the crankcase is a steel cone that contains the oil filter and next to it is the main oil drain plug. Get a big bowl, loosen the drain plug and drain. Then loosen the big nut on the filter cone, undo and pull down the filter unit. Messy! Put a new filter in and push the unit back up into the tractor, making sure it's seated straight. Do up the nut on the filter unit, the main drain nut too. Then open the big pipe cap next to the pulley wheel and pour in about 7 quarts of good oil. There's an oil leveling nut on the side of the case below the pulley. Open the bolt in the top of the nut and when oil seeps out you've filled the crankcase enough. Run the engine for ten minutes, shut it off and check the level again. The filter unit takes about a quart and you may have to add more oil til the level is right. Hope this helps. You may want to check the transmission and hydauulic oil too as a lot of dirt gets in there. Let me know if you need help.
