Which starter is on that engine ? There is a 4KW Bosch option for cold weather 12V starting on the six cylinder Dubuque.

Can't recall which one but there is a large Delco starter that will bolt on . The two bolt starter mount limits the choices in starters .

Here is some advice that will tell all but nobody in 12 years here has ever done. Measure the voltage between the starters' cast body and the starter's positive post while cranking. The voltage is probably low , 10 volts is absolute minimum. 11Volts will provide 121% more cranking power than 10V.
