We have a policy at work that we DO NOT HOOK
OUR TRUCKS TO ANYBODY BUT US. Simple enough
to understand, or get fired. So, while
plowing the roads, if you get to one that
has a tendency to drift, it almost aways has
a pickup truck or 2 of kids with a snow day
stuck halfway down the mile. When you get to
them, they beg and plead for you to pull
them out. You tell them No, against our
policy, and if you can't get around them,
you back down the mile, and continue on your
plowing route, but it sure does mess it up
for your route and time you have to get
done. Sometimes you make it worse if you can
get around them if it is drifted and you
have to slow down, the side plow, underbody,
and wing are all pushing snow and can't
throw it due to the low speed, so you
basically just made a 5' high snow wall
around them. Then you're the biggest SOB in
the county for not pulling them out and
making it worse for them. Call central
dispatch and notify them if the car/truck is
blocking the roadway so they know not to
send an ambulance through that part if
needed for something else in the area. Not
only that, but I was told by a MI state
trooper that if you go in the ditch, off the
road, etc, you are legally required to
report the incident so a police report can
be filed. And if you just go ahead and pull
it out, you can be charged with leaving the
scene of an accident. I was told it had
something to do with insurance fraud, like
if you had no deductible for a car/deer, but
actually went in the ditch and had to pay a
deductible for that, and then just pulled it
out later and claimed it was a car/deer
accident or something along those lines. I
know MI has a "good Samaritan law" where you
can't be sued, and I know 100% for sure that
covers trying to give medial attention to
someone, but I don't know if that is the
only thing, or if it covers other stiff like
trying to help someone with a stranded
vehicle? Probably not, that would be just
crazy!! Why shouldn't someone be able to sue
you for trying to help them change a tire or
such? Stupid stupid

Today's Featured Article - Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
