My dad bought a new model 76 in the fall of 1947, when I was seven years old. As I was the oldest kid in the family I was with him a lot and we pulled the baler with a model A John Deere. By the time I was ten I was driving the baler, thanks to the hand clutch of the John Deere. The pickup worked OK, but the canvases were another story. When the hay was short it would not go up the canvas to the chamber. When it was really long it would go up and then wrap around the canvas at the top and wrap onto anything near, making for quite a mess.
