I did a stupid thing this spring. I left my Ford 8N out at the lake house, and we had a 7' flood of the lake.
It completely swamped my tractor. As soon as the water went down, I pulled the plugs, drained all the fluids, and cleaned out the distributor. I put 3 quarts of diesel fuel in the crankcase, and 5 quarts of diesel in the trans/pump case. Replaced the batt, and cranked it over a while while spritzing some WD-40 in the cyls. I rebuilt the carb, then drained the diesel, and filled the crankcase with new oil, and new hyd fluid in the trans/pump.
After removing all the crud from the dist, and setting the points, I filled the gas tank full, then drained out 1 gallon of goop and hooked up the fuel. After starting it, I let it run and get up to full temp for a while.
I had to rebuild the gen, and clean the starter well, but it runs great now. No long term trouble but it was a bunch of messy, goopy work.
