Hi, My first post ever. Helping a widow sell a 1969 Ford 5000 (4 cyl diesel, Simms Injection, about 3,000 hours) that had been parked 4 years out back in a shed. Did several inspections and it started right up. Needed battery charge and jump. Ran 10 seconds probably on fuel in pump. Restarted and after a few seconds, went into diesel runaway, a scary event. Fortunately we had the intake hose off and were able to choke it off quickly and kill it. Two bad things are happening. The fuel cut off lever is NOT working. It moves and no effect. The throttle lever moves and governor lever moves on the injector body and NO effect. So the engine starts easily and goes to wide open and no shut off. We can start it and choke it to an idle using an air intake cover with a small hole. Have looked around the forum for information and found some useful information. How would you proceed? We do not wish to spend $1,300 for a Simms injector rebuild, we would sell the tractor as is instead. We are proceeding slowly and carefully. sorry for long post.
