Fits right in although cubic inch wise, it is a much smaller engine. 1010 gas is the same basic cubic inches as a 2-cylinder 420 Deere. 1010 diesel is much larger and same size as a 2010 gas engine. I still have the original gas engine in my 1960 Deere 1010 crawler. Been a great little engine. Actually, been a great little crawler overall. In some ways I prefer it over a 350.
