My wife was stopped for running a stop sign. Tree branches covered the sign and it could not be seen. She returned to the sign of the crime and took pictures which she took to court. The judge, a woman, through out the charge. Several years ago on a two lane road I was following a much hotter car that had just passed me. A trooper on the opposite side of the road had a radar gun and stopped me, not the faster car ahead of me. I stopped and got into the troopers car as he did his paper work. While he was looking at his papers I asked how the radar worked. "Like this" he said and flicked it on. It immediately went off as a muscle car came speeding towards us. The trooper got out of the cruiser and flagged down his victim, not the speeder who was long gone but an old beater that was following. I took justice in my own hands and ignored my ticket. Haven't heard a word from the authorities.
