The white smoke is caused by excessive head pressure causing the pump to overfuel. The cylinders cannot burn all the fuel, thus white smoke. This is usually caused by the peices of the disintigrated governor ring plugging the return line to the tank.: I have a 69 Case 580 CK. It does not burn oil & the thing has a lot of power but the color of the exhaust smoke is white. A previous message said that this was caused by water or coolant. The fuel tanks has been emptied w/ new fuel & Case diesel fuel conditoner added. Am I going to burn up the engine if I continue to run it w/ white exhaust smoke? Is it probably just a head gasket that needs fixed? I think it smokes less the hotter the engine get but I'm not sure. Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks. Jim.
