It would probably be easier to take the wheel off, take the weight off the axle. Lat the whel face down in line with the axle, put the weight on top of the wheel, bolt it on reaching through the center hole. Then stand the assembly back up and on to the axle. It may be heavier doing it that way, but at least you won't be smashing your fingers if it gets away! Get some help!
