You don't need the solenoid or the ballast resistor. I have 12v generators on my 66 and 77 both. I use the original ignition/light switch and original large push button in the dash for the starter with a 12v coil. Been using the 77 every day of the week to feed cattle with it all hooked up like that for years. In fact,on the 66,I bought a whole new wiring harness from Korves Oliver and just hooked it all up to a 12v generator,regulator and coil. It all wires up the same regardless of the voltage.
