Thistle is a good feed if you can get your cattle to eat it. On par with alfalfa for protein.
I read where you can get cattle used to eating their "candy", feed it in a few barrels. Start mixing in a little thistle, and within a week you can have them eating it out of the field.
What we call mullen up here has a large stalk with large, pale green, velvety-looking leaves, and a series of yellow flowers at the top of the stalk. Takes a good soaking of 2,4d and tordon to kill it, or mow it really low as it flowers. If you cut the flower off it grows more, but not as many.
