Guy in the navy went thru the series of shots. He asked for a glass of water after that. Corpsman asked if he was feeling faint? He said no, just checking to see if he was "Water Tight"!!! LOL!!!
Someone I knew that was in Viet Nam said that when the guys would go to see the ladies that charged money and came back with a burning sensation, they would get a shot of Penicillin. When the records showed that they were repeat offenders the juice would be colder and the needle would gradually need to get larger and would cause a little more pain. The thought being that they would think of the consequences before misbehaving without protection again.
Before the late wife and I were married in 1976, we think a false positive showed up in her annual physical and that either required me to have a test that took 3 days to get results or get the shot in the butt. I knew that if I had anything I got it from her, and she claimed (I believe her) that her previous physical was clean and she did not get infected by anyone else.. We both got matching black and blue cheeks as I didn't want to drag it out longer than necessary. For the record, the health care professional thought I was the offender as I was 22 and she was only 19. Also for the record we had no symptoms!
