You should be good for 3500+ miles before you need to refill the DEF tank if it was full. Your dash display should tell you when you are getting low. Keep a jug around the garage or where ever you park. If you run out the truck will go into limp mode,and you may luck out by refilling the DEF tank,but more than likely it will take a trip to the dealer or truck shop to have the code cleared. DEF does have a shelf life, so don't leave it sit around for extended periods of time. It will freeze, and it doesn't like to sit in direct sun.
