Back in the late '80's we had an '85 GMC full sized conversion van with a 6.2 diesel engine. The tailpipes had been modified to go straight out under the rear bumper instead of exiting behind the rear wheels.
Once on I-76 in Colorado my wife was driving and I was riding shotgun. A biker pulled up within ten feet of our rear bumper and let us break the wind. I kept and eye on him as I wasn't too comfortable with the situation. About then we hit just enough of an upgrade for the trans to kick out of OD. A big cloud of diesel smoke puffed out of the tailpipes and instantly the biker was a couple hundred yards behind us.
