We had some that used the AA batteries and when the original rechargeable ones went bad I just put a regular AA battery in there. Those lasted about a year. Your better batteries Duracell or Enigizer last longer. I think the slow recharge rate of the solar cell is easy on the batteries. If it is an expensive light you might want to invest in some rechargeable batteries. The ones I played around with were very cheap so I did not care if the lights were destroyed or not. Surprisingly the lights lasted about 3 years before the contacts rusted away from rain.
