The 430 and 440 balers were IH built and the evolution of the 47 and 37 balers. The 420 was the evolution of the 27 baler. The earliest 430 and 440 balers had the same knotters as the 37 and 47 balers before IH came out with the all-twine knotters that could be retrofitted on the early 440s and 430 and the 47 and 37 balers. Many parts will interchange between the generations.
My understanding (right or wrong) is at some point IH closed their plant and had their square balers manufactured at a New Idea plant but that was later - during 435 and 445 production, But still an IH design and IH stamped and cast parts - New Idea provided the labor and the assembly line.
I don't know if IH ever designed and built their own round baler before the merger.
