Our 574 has both shafts. With the shield on there are you sure there is only one shaft? The one in up in that hump in the shield. I think both of ours run at the same time. We don't use ours for PTO work much so don't look at it. I would honestly have to go out and look at it while it ran. I would have to look at our 674 to see if it has both shafts. One possible problem you might run into with the lowered engine speed is the torque and power curves might cause the engine to waver some not keeping your current flow correct. I know my brother wanted to shift up and idle down to plant with the 856 one time. He planted half of a field with half a tank of fuel. I planted the other half with the other half of the tank shifted down and more throttle. I tried running a round baler that way once and didn't like it. Mowing on the other hand worked good that way.
