Your old version of Office will install. Google Docs and free Microsoft Office online will both open your old files. Libreoffice and Openoffice will also open your old files.
All of them are pretty easy to use, they kept the interface "simple" through the years, common buttons at the top.
As long as you have good backups, you could try opening your files to see if there are issues. I'd probably suggest Libreoffice as the best option, not depending on Internet, etc.
I guess I prefer free options when available, security updates for Office 2003 stopped as well, the other options get you up to date.
