My 20 years as a cop was spent in a city of just over 300,000 so we were not huge, but not Hooterville, either. We NEVER enforced trailer regs or state truck regs. We didn't even train on them or study them as they were not relevant to our jobs. As far as I know the Sheriff didn't either.
That was all left up to the state Highway Patrol and there are not very many of them to cover the whole state. So - there is not a lot of enforcement for anything but 18 wheelers.
